The passion for music in general and for the craft of instrument making in particular was kindled at an early age in my very musical parental home in Leipzig.
From the guitar to the violin
The path to becoming today’s master luthier began in the 1980s and led first through guitar making.
I was able to learn how to build guitars in the “country music town of 2021” Markneukirchen in the Vogtland region. Markneukirchen, a small town in the Vogtland region of Saxony, is one of the main towns of the so-called Musikwinkel, which for centuries has been one of the world’s important centers of musical instrument manufacturing.
At the beginning of the 1990s, he switched to violin making in the Franconian town of Bubenreuth – another “instrument-making metropolis” with worldwide appeal. Roderich Paesold and Karl Höfner was the first stop on this “journey of experience” to various positions – including responsibility for clay wood purchasing. Until the foundation of his own studio
violins, violas and cellos took almost 10 years of experience.
Instrument making in his own hands
In the year 2001 the step into the independence took place. Together with Klaus Clement I founded the Clement & Weise Instrumentenmanufaktur in Bubenreuth and established a successful range of high-quality string instruments in the market.
After the retirement of Klaus Clement in 2010, I dedicated myself alone to my passion – violins, violas and cellos – and moved after my location Möhrendorf 2019 to the larger studio space in the neighboring town of Baiersdorf – my current location »HAGEN WEISE«.
